Congratulations to Ryan, Nathan, and Sarah who shared their favourite pieces at this past Sunday’s RCM Alumni Association recital held at Steinway Pianos. Playing traditional folk songs, modern Canadian compositions, and Baroque dances, these students covered a range of musical styles. They also had the pleasure of hearing more advanced piano playing, duets, trios, and voice students from other   studios across the city.

An extra special congratulations to Ryan who was given the award of Most Ambitious Student and a $60 scholarship!

The SSO presented PLAYATHON, a musical marathon, on Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Instead of running on pavement, musicians ran their fingers over the keys to create beautiful music. Thanks to students Madeleine, Courtney, Monica, Lois, Lindey, Olivia, and Laurissa, and teachers Noreen and Karen for contributing to 12 hours of continuous music. Congratulations to Madeleine and Courtney for coming in “first” and raising $235 in support of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra!

.
Held at the new Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra Office at 408 20th Street West, PLAYATHON was a celebration of the arrival of a newly donated 9 foot Heintzman concert grand which came from the estate of Earl Ewing, a former piano tuner.  Restoration of the piano was donated to the Symphony by Roger Jolly of the Yamaha Centre. A beautiful instrument to run a marathon on!

Saskatoon Music Festival 2012

10 May;  Author: admin

Congratulations to all those who competed in the

Saskatoon Music Festival!

The Saskatoon Music Festival ran from April 28th to May 5th, hosting classes for piano in Jazz/Blues/Ragtime, Classical Sonatas, Duet Teams, Baroque repertoire, Movie Themes, and more. Students were challenged to grow in their playing and reach this ambitious performance goal. Some students received certificates for their playing, others achieved personal bests, and all returned with positive feelings about their playing and themselves.

.

Many thanks to the Saskatoon Music Festival Committee, the University of Saskatchewan Music Department, piano adjudicators

Peggy L’Hoir (Biggar, SK), Michael Oike (Winnipeg, MB), and Alfred Fisher (Kingston, ON) for new ideas and much encouragement!
